God is Watching Over You

One weekend my grandma, and her sister, F, decided to take a day and go visit another of their sisters, L. It was about a 90 minute drive one way. On the way home, while driving down the freeway, a car with two hispanic men pulled alongside my grandma's car. After getting F's attention they motioned for the two elderly ladies to pull over to the shoulder. They pointed to the tires on grandma's car and made a rocking motion their hands.

I want to make a note here that the reason I am mentioning ethnic background is to give you a detailed visual. It's the same reason I use the word elderly to describe my grandma and her sister. God is in the details. He designed all nationalities and each of them has some features generally characteristic for that nationality. Hispanics generally aren't very tall people. In addition, there was a fair amount of racial tension in the area at the time. I am not making any derogatory statements about race so please don't take it that way. Now on with the story.

F told grandma she should pull over but grandma said she wanted to wait a minute for the men to leave. This was in California and at a time when car-jackings were on the rise. The car with the two men drove ahead so grandma pulled over to the shoulder.

Immediately another car with two more hispanic men pulled up behind them, and following it still another car pulled up behind that one. A very large african-american man got out of the last car, walked up to the car in front of his and told the two men to leave, that he would take care of the ladies.

The man walked over to grandma's car and asked what the problem was so the ladies explained what happened. The man, who was dressed in a suit, took his jacket off and climbed under their car to inspect the tire. After a moment he came back out and told my grandma he could find nothing wrong and to drive ahead of him for a bit so he could see the tire in motion. After driving for a little way, the man pulled up next to my grandma and gave her a thumbs up then drove away. We have always wondered if that man was an angel of the Lord.

The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Psalm 34:7

Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4

Not only is His timing perfect, but God does not overlook one single detail in anything that He sets out to accomplish.

Project 365 - September 27, 2009 +1

Project 365
I'm a day late but still getting in on Project 365 hosted by Sara. You are welcome to join in late too if you want. I'm sure Sara wouldn't mind. Sorry Sara, I'll try to be on time from now on. :)

Sunday - The grand-girls invited a couple of friends to go to church with us. It's a good thing little girls don't mind climbing over the seat to get to the 3rd Row.

Wait a minute! This little one cannot come to church with us.

Monday - I had to pick up Word Girl from school early to take her to the orthodontist. On the way we saw this guy. We turned around and went back to take this picture.

Tuesday - When was the last time you had to wait for the tv to warm up? I may have just dated myself with that question. I think my tv has just about reached it's life's end.

Wednesday - We have been watching daily as this carnival is being setup near the girls school. The girls are just a little excited. It's almost all they talk about.

Thursday - Sick day.

Friday - Got together with a friend. This is her daughter and their 9 month old puppy, Tank. The name fits him perfectly!

The Weeks Worth

Just some of the stuff that made up my week. Some thoughts, observations, or events.

1... I have noticed that the price of gas has been going down again lately. I'm a little nervous about making that observation public.

2... This is the inside of my Envoy. Notice that I have three rows of seats. I thought that was pretty cool so I could carry extra passengers if need be. What I don't understand is why the manufacturer didn't include another way to get into that 3rd set of seats except to climb over the 2nd set. The kids don't seem to mind it. Would you?

3... I think that the manufacturers of coffee makers with an automatic shut-off feature should make the length of time before shutting off programmable. Cold coffee just isn't good.

4... Have you ever noticed that God gave ants the ability to materialize out of thin air? I had a slow trickle of ants on the pantry floor this week. I killed them all, swept them up, then three or four materialized right in front of me. No matter how many times I killed them, they just kept materializing.

5... I really dislike the sensation of being hot and cold at the same time. I don't know whether to take something off or put something on.

6... One night while I was sleeping, I felt some light movement on the back of my shoulder. I reached behind me to wipe my shoulder and felt something round get caught between two of my fingers. As I brought my hand forward, the object was flung out of my fingers and I heard it hit the wall, then I fell back to sleep.

I was sleeping pretty deeply it seems, as I woke up enough to remember the details (vividly), but not enough to care much at the time. The next day I fully realized that what I felt was a good size spider crawling on my shoulder. I heard it hit the wall. Yuk! I also realized that God was watching over me. I'm so glad He doesn't sleep. I'm still recovering from the trauma.

Have a great weekend!

Isaiah 45:3 - He Calls You by Name

I will give you treasures hidden in the darkness- secret riches, I will do this so you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, the one who calls you by name. Isaiah 45:3

This is a recent scripture that the girls and I memorized. It's funny that as I'm teaching them, I'm also having to memorize these scriptures with them. That is a good thing.

I have been wanting to focus on the closeness and intimacy that Jesus has with us. That He is real and that He knows them personally. That's why I chose this scripture. There's just something personal about being called by your name. Have you ever noticed that when you are talking with someone and they use your name in the course of the conversation it just makes you feel a little closer to them. It conveys the message that they really know you.

We focused on the fact that Jesus calls us by name, so for our project the girls decorated their initial to hang in their bedrooms. They really enjoyed this project and were delighted with the end result too. These actually turned out much nicer than in the pictures.

The Process
The girls painted wooden letters, then decoupaged torn scrapbook paper on them. I helped fold the edges over to give it a smooth finish.

Here's Word Girl with her "W". :)
She was actually happier than she appears in this picture.

Computer Girl posing with her letter "C". Does she look proud or what?

Of course Miss Personality wasn't satisfied with just one letter. She insisted on spelling out the whole name.

Hopefully, when they look at these hanging on their walls, they will remember the One who calls them by name.

Today is Tuesday. You Know What That Means...

Well, when you're at ADHD-Jo's you know what that means. Over here you can never be quite sure. Today it means that we're going to have a special guest, just like ADHD-Jo does every Tuesday.

My bloggie friend Heidi was in the JDRF Walk for a Cure (Walk to cure diabetes) in South Bend, IN last weekend, and she dressed uniquely to help any bloggie friends that might be walking for the cause, or watching for the cause, identify her. These are Heidi's feet. Notice the identifying factor?

This reminded me of a tv series staring a little girl who used to wear mismatched socks. Actually, she wore mismatched shoes too, but she was always in style. Punky Brewster was a show about caring. I enjoyed it then and as I was looking for a clip that was less than 10 minutes long, I discovered that I still enjoy it. I hope you do too!

And be sure to visit Monkey's are Funny to see who the special guest is over there.

Project 365 - September 20, 2009

Project 365
I'm joining in the Project 365 meme again today. I'm still not as diligent about taking my picture a day as I used to be but another step closer. This is a fun meme hosted by Sara at ...make music from your heart to the Lord. Click on the button to get the details and join us.

Monday - This picture is compliments my little Computer Girl. She was practicing for when she grows up and plays Project 365 on her own blog.

Tuesday (Pic 1) - Whoops! I forgot to turn this one right side up. Sorry folks. We made easy sugar cookies this day. The girls were delighted to say the least.

Word Girl is shaping the dough into balls here. Looking at this picture, I have to wonder what those other two are up to in the background.

Wednesday - My coffee maker quit working and I had to buy a new one right away because one should not have to go without coffee all morning. I took the opportunity to buy a carafe-less coffee maker. I love it! The only down side is that it has an auto shut-off feature that goes off too soon for me.

Thursday - Scenic picture. I took this on my way home from dropping Computer Girl off at school. I suppose I probably looked like I was spying on the house across the way.

That's it for today. Thanks for visiting!

Five Little Words

I was visiting Kat's blog, Heart 2 Heart earlier this week and she had an interesting meme posted where she was given five random words to post about. I thought I would give this a try, and will add that it's harder than I expected. :)

If you would like to play along let me know and I will email you five random words. Here are the words Kat gave me. All but one made me immediately think of Christ.

1. Heart: Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Psalm 51:10
- I want my heart to be fully devoted to Jesus in every way. I wish I could say that it always was, but as I am tried, I discover there are still areas that are not as loyal as I had thought. I pray that if God ever gives me a husband that he will be completely sold out for Christ. Two hearts cannot remain joined together through life if they are not encouraging each other in the same direction.

2. student: I think it's interesting that this is the one word that Kat did not capitalize, because I don't like school. I almost didn't graduate high school because I wanted to work. I took the easiest classes available so that I wouldn't have homework to get in the way of holding a job. The worst part is that the school let me. After taking geometry, I was allowed to take basic math. We're talking 2+2 kind of basic.

On the flip side to not liking school, I love to learn. I just prefer to dig into a subject on my own and work at the pace, the place and the time that I want to. I learn much more that way and usually spend many more hours digging in. Sometimes I would like to discuss questions I may have with someone who has more knowledge about the subject. I'm so thankful that I can take all my questions to God and that He will answer and teach me. I love being His student and learning from Him. - Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. Psalm 86:11

3. Living: But the Lord is the only true God. He is the living God and the everlasting King! Jeremiah 10:10 - This truth astounds me. The fact is, our God is a Living, breathing, active God. All other gods are the product of man's imaginations. But the Living God who created all things, fashioned us from HIS imagination and in the likeness of HIS Image. What an incredible honor.

4. Paradise: And Jesus replied, "I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise." Luke 23:43 - This is where it all began and where it will begin again. I say begin again and not end because my life will only just begin when I step into the other side of eternity where paradise awaits. I think my heart longs for this more than anything else.

5. World: "Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world." Psalm 46:10 - Usually when this scripture is quoted, the second part of it is left out. The fact is, we are here to Honor God. In this day and age, few people honor God in their speech or action. We are so used to seeing it that we have become tolerant and hardly phased when God is disrespected. When I think that one day the entire world will honor Him, I am utterly amazed. It is something that is hard to really wrap my mind around.

Thankful Thursday - September 17, 2009

Thankful Thursday at Truth 4 the Journey

I am joining Sonya today for Thankful Thursday. Feel free to pop over to her blog, grab the button, and join in.

1. Thank you Lord, for being so faithful to provide for me during this time of financial concern. I don't know what Your plan is or how You will work it all out, but I choose to Trust You.

2. Thank you Lord that my grand-girls pray for the specific needs of others, including me. What a joy that is to hear.

3. Thank you Lord that the cat didn't get Tobi's eye, that the vet only charged me half of the cost of an office visit, and that Tobi did not need to be sedated. She doesn't let anyone do anything to her, except me, and then cautiously. This vet and his assistant were excellent in the way they handled her.

4. Thank you Lord for not giving up on me. You are faithful even when I am not. Keep me under your wing.

5. Thank you Lord for all the rain we have had lately.

Tobi and the Evil Cat

This is my sweet little Tobi. I love her to death but there are times when she seems to be under the delusion that she is in control around here. I want you to know that she is deliberately not looking at me because she knows I'm taking her picture. Usually she wants to be right up in the picture but she was feeling a little rebellious right then. Maybe she was just embarrassed about the scar on her pretty little face.

Yes I tried for another one and she did it again.

Last week I opened the back door to let Tobi in and just at that moment she heard something in the garden so she went to inspect the territory. Just as she thought, a cat! It had been a while since she ripped the squeaker out of something furry so she thought she would try it now. But this cat was evil.

Instead of running for dear life and trying to get out of the yard, which it didn't belong in to begin with, it held it's ground. The two of them were right in front of me hissing and snarling and baring teeth all over the place. I grabbed a towel that was near the door and tried to shoo the cat away with it but it hissed at me. Now as much as I love animals, that was just wrong. I flung the towel at it a bit harder and it ran under the fence, and then it turned around and watched us.

I let Tobi in the house and as I closed the door I saw the evil cat slink back into my yard and resume it's position in my garden, as my dog sits in front of me with blood all over her nose and ear. So I went and got a squirt bottle, set it at the long and straight stream and made sure that cat knew it was not welcome. I haven't seen it since.

Fortunately the cat didn't get Tobi's eyeball but it did get her bottom eye lid. This is what an antibiotic looks like after it has been stuffed into the center of a hot-dog, chewed up and then spit out... twice. I had to make her an egg, over easy, and mix it in the egg to get her to take what was left of this.

This is proof that I really love my dog.

Word Girl's Birthday

Word Girl celebrated her birthday last week and I'm just now getting around to posting this. We had cupcakes this time instead of a cake. I enjoyed packing it full of candles like a porcupine on fire. Do you know how old she is?

I just love those happy little faces. That is a new webkinz. She got two, the leopard and the clown fish.

Can you tell who the real kid is in this family?

Olivia loves chess.

What's Wrong with Blogger

The Blogger peeps must be working on new features or updates. I can tell because I have been having trouble with everything I've tried to do in here for the last few days. (sigh)

It won't let me upload pictures right now, and I ran out of time. Have to take Computer Girl to school now and run some errands. I will be back later to try again.

Have a great day!

Praise God and Awards

Let's begin with an Awesome Praise report. If you haven't already been to Melanie's blog this morning, you need to rush right over and read what God has done. All I'm going to say is Andrew is alive and well!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You God!!!
Align Center

I have had the privilege of receiving two awards this week. It's been crazy busy around here and this is the first chance I have had to post them.

The first is from one of my newest bloggy friends, Kat at Heart 2 Heart. I think most of you may already know Kat, but if not, please do yourself a favor and go visit her. She is a real gem with a wonderfully loving heart.

Kat has kindly awarded me with this Awesome Prayer Warrior award. I am truly honored to receive it and I thank you Kat.

Now the rules say I am supposed to pass it along to other prayer warriors. I know that we all pray for each other but there are a few who have a deeper passion for prayer or feel called to pray and encourage prayer more strongly. So I am going to pass this on to those people. You may have already received it or you may be one who doesn't post awards and I respect that. If that is the case then just know that you have been thought of.

Lisa Shaw at Sharing Life with Lisa
Beth at An Instrument for His Glory
Alice at From the Heart
Stephanie at SHEPHERD'S WALK at Sweetbriar

The next award came from a dear bloggy friend that I have known for a little while, and his mom. If you know me, then you surely know how much I love animals. Well my furry friend Sitka at All God's Creatures, yes it is his own blog, has awarded me with this humane award. Thank you so much Sitka.

Sitka has a helping ministry working for the Lord. If you haven't met him then please go introduce yourself and tell him I sent you. Say hi to his mom Andrea while you are there too. ;)

As for passing this award along, I want to give this to all of you who have a love and appreciation for the wonderful creatures that God has given us and how much we can learn about our Creator through these animals.

Urgent Prayer Request for Melanie's Son Andrew

I just copied this from Lisa's blog Glad Chatter. Please pray.

Melanie, over at Bella Mella, just called. Her son, Andrew, who is battling brain cancer just went into surgery to save his life. They have had a very difficult three days and the Lord led them to Shand's Hospital in Gainesville, Florida this morning. Dr. Pincus is performing the surgery and they will be in the operating room for about the next four hours. The Dorsey's were told the surgery was inoperable yet God has led them to surgery. Please pray for our good and mighty God to perform a huge miracle in Andrew's life. I will keep everyone updated as I hear more. Melanie thanks everyone for storming the gates of heaven on her boy's behalf.
Our God is mighty to save!
