Living in His Presence

This is a quote from Spurgeon's Daily Devotionals for Sunday.

Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence. (Psalm 140:13)

"'The upright shall dwell in thy presence!' They shall stand accepted where others appear only to be condemned."
I just stopped as I read those words, and a few faces quickly flashed through my mind. I thought about those who oppress, abuse, snub and mistreat others for their own selfish gain and have gotten away with it. They think, because there have been no consequences to their actions, that they are winning the battle. But in reality, they are deceived in their thinking and will one day discover the truth. They will discover that they were losing all along. The question is whether they will discover and trust in Jesus before that day of judgement.

Lord I thank you that you have accepted me and have helped me to know you. Draw me nearer still and don't let me step to the left or the right but keep
me centered on you. I lift up all of these that came to mind, and I pray that you would speak to their hearts and invite them to know you now. In Jesus Name - Amen

Edie

Do not step to the left or the right...reminds me of Proverbs (of course!) in keeping on the road of wisdom and righteousness. Solomon uses "the adulteress" in explaining how we are so swayed by the ways of the world, yet we don't realize--so tangled in our sins--that her ways lead to death!

And though the Bible counsels us, again in Proverbs, not to correct a scoffer, in that we bring dishonor for ourselves (9:7), we can certainly pray for God to change their hearts to know Him--because that's where the issue lies.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." (9:10) Thank you for the perspective today!

Too many people assume they can live whatever life then choose and they plan on repenting at the last moment. Unfortunatly for some of them, they may never get a chance.

Perfect timing as I reflect on being snubbed over the weekend by one that truly doesn't know Jesus. But as I also ask that I not step to the left or to the right, I also pray Lord that I would not become prideful because I am Yours. I tend to do so....Edie. Lovingly, Yolanda

It's sobering to think about the ones I love who don't know God - really, who want nothing to do with Him. My little brother thinks he is so enlightened - so wise - so smart. But he is so lost.
Thanks for moving me to pray for him again today.

Stepping off the path just a little while still walking straight will take us to a completely different place than the path we were on. Using Him as a lamp will keep us on the straight and narrow.
Thanks for this timely reminder.

Great post! I am so glad that God accepts us for who we are and this reminded me to pray that I will desire drawing closer to Him!

It breaks my heart to know some people even those who are relatives that don't know the Lord and do not desire and what also makes me weep are those who say they know the Lord publicly and are living in blatant sin privately.

My heart weeps for all who do not know the love and saving grace of Jesus Christ. I pray pray and pray...

Thank you for sharing with us Edie. I love you.
