Internet Cafe Question - The Lie

What is a lie that you have believed in the past (or even currently), and why do you think you believed that lie? Find a verse in God’s Word to combat the lie.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I think of lies the first thing that comes to mind is Satan, the author of lies. If he can convince us to believe his lies then he can hold us in bondage. That is what he did with me. While there have been many lies he had convinced me of, they all culminated into one massive lie, "except Edie." You see, anytime I would hear or read one of God's promises, the enemy would be right there whispering "except Edie." It was continuous and constant.
"I know the plans I have for you ... plans to give you a future and a hope" - "except Edie."
"You are fearfully and wonderfully made." - "except Edie."
"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." - "except Edie."
On and on it went tearing down my self esteem and leaving me feeling worthless, unwanted, with nothing to offer, and hopeless. This lasted a number of years and even though my brain knew that it was a lie, my heart came to believe it. My circumstance appeared to prove it and honestly, I just didn't know how to really fight the spiritual battle effectively. But God does not leave His children to the enemy. Even though Satan was able to convince me that I was nothing, even in God's eyes, he could not convince me that God was anything less than GOD.
God began to show me more clearly the tactics and strategies of the enemy and how to effectively battle with the enemy in His Power. Speak scripture out loud in response to the lies. "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12)
Sing praise songs boldly in defiance against the enemy. "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7)
He has taught, and is still teaching me many other things about this spiritual battle that we are in and He freed me from the bondage that the lie had led me into. "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32)
O Lord - Thank you so much for your unfailing love and for the freedom that you and You Alone can give. You are Almighty GOD.
mmmm.... I loved this post. I did the same thing for too long. I imagine the father of lies, just nodding his head and grinning everytime the truth of God's word in my life was deflected by my own, "except Critine". Praise God - He is faithful, ever present and so patient with his sheep. Thanks so much for sharing.
What a great post I love that Hebrews 4:12 verse - it is not one that I have come across yet as I am only just beginning on my journey in my faith. It's a very strong and clear verse - certainly one that needs remembering!
Hi Edie!
I had to check out your response to the Lie question... and was happy to find our thoughts on the matter.
That dirty old devil sure is a piece of work making us feel all guilty and "less than" like he does! Really ticks me off and like you, when I figured out it was him .... and not us... -- that whole; not a flesh and blood issue, but the powers of darkness?... THAT is when I realized the power of the WORD! he doesn't have a chance then. Sorry I didn't even want to allow him a capital letter.) ;) I'm glad you too boldly tell him off in the name of Jesus.
Hallelujah!
One lie I believed for a while is that I would have to wait for my husband to come along in order to be fulfilled, instead of letting God serve that purpose (which is his in the first place). Lysa TerKeurst mentioned once that "the grass is not greener on the other side, it's greener where you water and fertilize it." That is something I carry around with me now, and I am grateful for the opportunities I have as a single woman to reach out to other women who don't yet live as Christ wants them to.
Thank you! These words spoke right to me! I'm aMazed how you are winning the spiritual battle and being set free from any bondage, step by step in His Truth! The Scripture was tremendous and All powerful...Lord, I thank You for bringing Edie the truth and conquering the enemy, setting her Free to experience & know Your Unfailing love! Bless you for indeed blessing me with this Bondage Breaker from Lies we've believed! Praise God!
The enemy ALWAYS comes to steal , kill and destroy. He comes as a wolf in sheeps clothing....in all sorts of ways that make us fall for his deception. (Even dressed as preachers sometimes!) The closer I draw to God the faster I am to identify the enemy and turn to the Lord for help! Kathie
