Texas in July
You Know You Are In Texas In July When...
Ah, what a place to call home. God Bless The State of TEXAS !!!
- The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.
- The trees are whistling for the dogs.
- The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
- Hot water now comes out of both taps. You can make sun tea instantly.
- You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.
- The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.
- You discover that in July it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.
- You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
- You actually burn your hand opening the car door.
- You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m.
- Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is: "What if I get knocked out, end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"
- You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.
- The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out, and add butter, salt and pepper.
- Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs.
- The cows are giving evaporated milk.
Ah, what a place to call home. God Bless The State of TEXAS !!!

Life Without the Safety Net
I'm a planner. I don't like taking risks. I like to see what's in front of me so that I can make the best decisions possible for the circumstances. I like to be prepared.
About a year and half to two years ago I began to realize that I was living the safe life and not the Faith life. Faith is proved by living it out, not just saying it. Oh sure I didn't leave God when the going got tough. Where would I go?
Believing that Jesus is LORD is faith, it is saving faith. But we aren't supposed to stop there. We must continue to work out and grow our faith throughout our lives. Faith is trusting God. He promises to guide us at all times. He promises never to leave us or forsake us. Now either I believe that or I don't.
The bottom line is, faith requires taking risks and I couldn't honestly say that I was doing that. I began to ask God to make me a risk taker. He answered and told me to step off the cliff and trust that His unseen Hand would hold me up. I obeyed and began to live without the safety net. I prayed that I would always live without the safety net and He has answered.
I loved this new freedom that I had. It was exciting. It was living life to the full. Now I have to confess that I'm getting scared. Fear is not faith, it is doubt. He has never failed me so why do I doubt Him now!? I keep looking for the safety net and when I don't see it I get scared. I need to focus on Jesus and trust Him to hold me, not on the safety net. The mighty Hand of God is far more secure than any safety net ever was or ever will be.
What is your safety net?

We live by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7
About a year and half to two years ago I began to realize that I was living the safe life and not the Faith life. Faith is proved by living it out, not just saying it. Oh sure I didn't leave God when the going got tough. Where would I go?
"You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God." John 6:67-69

Oh Lord please forgive me for not trusting you in these circumstances. I love you with all my heart and want more than anything to please you, to live a life in absolute, whole-hearted faith. Please help me to stop looking for the safety net and to trust you to guide me in these circumstances. Please calm my anxious heart and increase my faith. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen

God Knows What He's Doing
Don't you just love the way conversations turn out? My dog Tobi was outside. (There is a picture of her in my sidebar. Isn't she cute? Anyway, Ashleigh let her in and said Tobi was sweating. So Olivia commented that she didn't know that dogs could sweat. I told her they didn't, then I found out that's not exactly true, but they don't sweat like people do. That's a story for another day.
Anyway, so she tells me that hippos sweat is colored but she couldn't tell me what color. Yes I asked. I googled the answer because inquiring minds want to know. What I found out is very cool. Ha! Cool... sweat is to cool you off... get it? Ok never mind.
Yes hippos sweat is a red-orange color. Not only that BUT, their sweat contains substances that prevent infection and sunburn. When Hippos are wounded, they rarely get infection. One day your sunscreen or antibiotic ointment might contain hippo sweat. Isn't that appealing?
It just amazes me that we can learn so much about the love of God through His creation and the way He lovingly designed everything. Everything has a purpose right down to the sweat pores of a hippo.

...but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:32-33

Arlington 4th of July Parade - Update
Update: And we won first place in the Novice category! Yay! Ok so novice doesn't sound all that great but it was our first time and the only category we fit. :) Check out the winners list in the Star Telegram.
The Arlington Tea Party had a float in the 4th of July Parade. This is the first time I have participated in something like this. Now I want to do it every year. LOL! It was lots of fun and hard work.
The parade theme was monuments and memorials and our theme was Liberty. We constructed a replica of the Liberty Bell and I have to admit we were pretty pleased with the result. It was paper mache but when we were finished, it looked like metal. The pictures don't quite do it justice.
We had kids dressed in colonial outfits riding and waving flags and two people who walked in front of the float carrying American flags. It was a very HOT day but lots of fun.
Sorry for so many pictures. :)
Liberty Bell construction after the first few coats of paint.
Kellie, Janice, and Richard. Richard is such a kook. He posed like that on purpose.
We used foam letters for the writing on the bell, then painted it, black-washed it, bronze-washed it, and sealed it.
Kellie, Lukas, Richard
Kellie, Richard's son, me.
The float.

Besty Ross and a colonial soldier. He isn't in full costume yet. Those costumes were pretty hot.
Here's our little colonial crew. Aren't they cute?
We had quite a wait before the floats left the lot so the boys made the best of it.
