Elohim - The Creator

Yolanda at Joy Comes in the Morning is facilitating a study on the Names of God from the book Lord I Want to Know You by Kay Arthur. We are in week two of the study and the Name we studied is Elohim which refers to God as Creator.

It was very interesting to find out that in Hebrew, the him part in Elohim is actually plural and points to the triune Godhead. Elohim is used in Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God [Elohim] created the heavens and the earth.

On day five Kay discussed the purpose we were created for.

But now, this is what the LORD says— He who created you, O Jacob, He who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. ....... ... everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made." Isaiah 43:1,7 (emphasis mine)

I love how Kay tied this in with the scripture in 1 Corinthians that says:
...the woman is the glory of man. 1 Corinthians 11:7

The word glory in the Hebrew language means "to give the correct opinion or estimate of." A woman is to honor her husband in such a way that it gives a correct opinion or estimate of Him as a man. So if we are created for God's glory, then our purpose is to live in such a way that it gives all of creation a correct opinion or estimate of God.

What does this Name, Elohim, mean to me personally?

For me, when I think of God as The Creator, I see a glimpse of how we were created "In His Image". Elohim has placed some amount of creativity inside all of us. We generally think of creativity as some artistic ability but that isn't the only form of creativity. Many people who aren't artistic are very creative thinkers. Elohim is both artistic and a creative thinker and it is abundantly visible in His work. I find it wonderful and amazing that He would take such an incredible piece of Himself and place it into the hearts of men.

I also think about the fact that everything Elohim created is unique, even things that appear to be identical have some attribute that sets them apart from each other. Think about how incredible that really is. Everything that Elohim has created is a "first". Everything is a custom creation of His. You are custom made. That says so much about how much He values all of creation including every person, past, present, and future.

So how does Elohim - The Creator speak to you?

I am custom made?
That is such a great thought to start off my day! *grin*

Elohim - The Creator - means to me that my children (with ADHD and ADD) are not mistakes. That there is a purpose for the way they are CREATED. Elohim means HOPE to me!

I never had gone as far as to think that I was "custom" made, I LOVE THAT!

I've always known that each one of us is unique, and I stand in awe of that, how many of "us" has there been since the beginning of Adam & Eve? That is so much uniqueness, one of a kind, custom made, that my mind is on over-load!!!

Love you and thank you so much for helping me to think out side of the box!

Lovingly,
Yolanda

He fashioned each one of us. It is over my head to fathom how personal He is. We did not go through an assembly line. Yes, we are custom made. I love His names. I may do a study in a couple of weeks about His names. Blessings Edie. B

"Custom made" is perfect! It just sticks to you! I love that He put a special attention when He created me [us]. That I don't have to act, talk, walk like others because He created me the way He wants me to be. That's what the Lord brought to mind today...To give all I have back to Him. And that is an act of worship...to obey Him Who created me with love in the first place. How are you sister Edie? I love coming here. I feel like we're on the same track sometimes. Blessings to you sister. Enjoy your day!

Great post Edie...thought provoking. What got me was about God being creative - but of course He is - look at what he created! Duh! Recognizing that made me feel more connected because of my realizing my creativity this past year or so. Blessings...

So,I'm unique? Just like everyone else? Very thought provoking. HMM! But I get it. a paradox. Not a contradiction.

Since God has spared my life several times during the past 10 years, then what He created me to be is alive for a purpose.

Although I had learned that the Trinity existed from the very beginning, this is the first I've heard about the connection with one of the Hebrew names of God. That's' so cool!

I believe He not only created us and prepared us to do the good works that He has planned for us, but that He expects us to live as the people He created us to be--meaning, we shouldn't try to be someone else, look like anyone else, do others' work, etc.

"Making Something of Today"--the explanation of my personal blog--is not about producing something to show, necessarily, it's about doing "something" with what God gave you. That He blesses us to be creative, as you say, is not something to take lightly.

Each in his and her own way has a purpose and something to offer in each day for His Kingdom and glory!
