Random Question - Are We Still a Nation Under God?

Random Question

I know I usually have a deep, thought provoking question on Fridays, but today I felt led to ask something that everyone can answer. This nation is at a critical time right now. We are a powerful nation ONLY because we began as a nation under God.

Are we still a nation under God?

I believe that this nation is at a very critical crossroad right now. We have lived all of our lives with the freedom to do and say just about whatever we want. We have been given much power and wealth compared to other nations. Now many in this country seem to have this idea that we deserve this freedom and that we are invincible. We take these things for granted. We have come to depend on ourselves instead of our God. To many, God is something you can have on the sidelines, but should not affect your decisions or your job or any person who holds a different view. It is not only the unbeliever who holds these views but many who say they are Christian also hold these views.

That is not what the Bible teaches. God should affect every thought, decision, action, and word spoken from His people. For a very long time and more and more, God's people have remained silent and allowed the enemy to take over this country bit by bit. This country reeks of immorality, oppression, abuse, greed, and evil of all kinds.

I have to say that I don't believe that we are living as a nation under God. I do believe that we can be again. As I watch and listen to the people in this country, two thoughts continually come to my mind. The first one is that the wheat is being seperated from the chaff, the sheep from the goats. This nation is so clearly divided that there is almost no mistaking one side from the other. The second thing that continually comes to my mind is a scripture. Ok two.

"But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves
this day whom you will serve" ... (Joshua 24:15)

"If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, he will turn and bring disaster
on you and make an end of you, after he has been good to you." (Joshua 24:20)

I believe that God is saying these words to the people of this nation. We are not invincible. God can bring this nation down if He chose to do so, and it would be highy arrogant of us to think that He would never choose to no matter how we behave. He is a God who loves us enough to dicipline us.

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." Abraham Lincoln

I am asking you today, are we still a nation under God? Please write about
this on your blog and include a prayer for this nation. Please ask all who read
it to do the same.

Dear Lord forgive me for my own complacency in praying for those that you have placed in positions of authority over this nation. It is by the Power of the Name of Jesus Christ that we have become a great nation. Lord we have become a terribly sinful nation. Please pierce our hearts Lord. Call on your people thoughout this nation to bow before you in prayer. Save us from ourselves Lord. Open wide our eyes to see all that is happening in this country from your perspective. Cleanse our hearts. Holy Spirit stir the hearts of your people. Create an intense love for our Savior and desire within us to follow hard after you and to obey all that you command. I lift up all those you have placed in authority over this nation, that they would have hearts to seek your counsel and to obey you. I pray that you would choose leaders thoughout this country who will call on the Name of Jesus Christ. I pray that you would infuse courage into all of your people that we would no longer be silent but speak up for the Name of Christ. Lord give us one mind as we vote this election, the mind of Christ. I ask these things for your Glory and your Name's Sake. In Christ ~ Amen

Edie, what a timely post. Are we still a nation under God? Or are we taking His goodness and grace for granted, as the Israelites so often did ... trampling His Word and trashing His Holiness as we self-indulgently wallow in the very prosperity He has afforded us?

I believe He is giving us a wake-up call--an opportunity to return to Him and to the Godly foundation on which this country was established.

Will we recognize and heed His call? Oh, how I pray we do! Our trust belongs in Him alone. May we return the reverence due Him, and may He have mercy on us!

"Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil." (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)

"If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Today you touched on the 2 subjects that are dearest (dearest...I NEVER use that word), anyway, the 2 subjects that are dearest to my heart.
God and Country.
Chatty Kelly posted about the Battle Hymn of the Republic today....my fav song.
Anyway, I have to go out this morning but I'll be back later to answer your Random Question.

I guess as I read this post today I would answer the question:

"Are we still a nation under God?"

I would have to answer, Yes! We are still under His control, His power, and His Sovereignity. Are we as a nation acting like it? No! But I believe God didn't leave His people in the wilderness and He hasn't left us today. As Christ followers we have to be proactive! Pray, love and lead others to His heart!

Thank you Edie for encouraging us to think hard! And to pray hard!

Love to you my friend.

Hi Edie

Thanks for your sweet note on my blog. How cool... you have a sister of one of my turtles. We are family! Joy! If you ever want to write a story about her and post on my Turtle Tuesdays, let me know.
I call all my turtles and tortises- turtles. My first was a turtle. Somehow 'turtle girl' works and 'tortise girl' doesn't. I am a Christian speaker. Once I started sharing how I got my call and a turtle was involved...people started giving me turtles. My daughter's friend even brought me back a turtle keychain from her vacation! They remember my God story about a turtle.
I do post on other things than my turtles. My blog's purpose is to enourage people to walk by faith. I do not feel led to post about me and my family personally unless I have a point. My two readers would fall asleep! Here is a link to my 'in the beginning' of becoming a turtle girl.

I have so many stories walking with the Lord. I have yet to write my story on my blog name, B His Girl. Oh...how many post we have to write! By the way, as I drove my son to school this morning, I prayed that we would be 'one nation under God' like our founding fathers intended. After reading your post, I know that is what God is speaking out to His people to pray for. Thanks for sharing that. Have a wonderful weekend.

Edie,
I did turn off my comments they had become too much of a "focus" for me and I have been spending too much time reading, oh such wonderful blogs! but not enough time in Bible study. I will still come by my favs but less time just reading and reading site after site. I will turn them back on once I can better keep track of my time and be less tempted to blog and blog and blog!

You can reach me at cgjs1@verizon.net if you need too!

Great question, Edie - one near and dear to my heart. I've joined in this week. Do you make your Random Question box available for us to add on our sites?

Hi Edie,
I have enjoyed all the comments and your post.
It does make me sick to see some of the stuff going on in our country.
I guess I am apolitical, and pretty ignorant about current events. I am on-purpose not listening to news.
I don't need to hear it to know how bad things are.
If we aren't literally brought to our knees by something, we will just keep going on. We know from Jesus' words about the end times, that people will say-'aren't things just as they always were?'
I think it is a matter of having your spiritual eyes open. Jesus said to watch. We can actively watch, like you are doing-you're teaching, prodding, leading, serving.
Your post is a great reminder to stay awake in the WORLD, because Satan would have us dozing away and lulled into believing all is well.
Sorry this is so long.

Those fog pictures I spoke of were taken on July 4th. Would you like me to post them again, or you can go into my archive-just let me know. There's more that I took that day that didn't make it to the blog. I'm so glad I finally got over here. I love your blog. Your tags are beautiful.
Love, Debra

Great question... subject of MUCH prayer during this important time. Others are speaking about it better than I... so I will continue to pray fervently. We are His!

It's hard to know what to add here, Edie, because if you are a Christian and you believe in what God's Word says, then nothing that we are seeing right now should be surprising. It is upsetting, certainly, but not surprising.

Which leads to the question, what is one Christian to do? And isn't our only response to turn to God?? If it's not, then, clearly, we are not as in tune with what He has said.

Surely, these times we are in--this post-Christian era, as some like to call it--would call for people to be drawn to God's Word for the ultimate truth.

Workin' my way back....thanks for the great question!

Very true post. It was a good confirmation to what our prayer group has been talking about. We will either get God's mercy or His judgment in this election. Thanks for your boldness to post this.
