Internet Cafe Question - Godly Mentor

Do you have a godly (woman) mentor in your life? If so, describe your relationship with her… If you don’t have a mentor, would you like one and what would you hope to gain from the relationship?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
men·tor:
–noun
1. a wise and trusted counselor or teacher.
2. an influential senior sponsor or supporter.
I think this is an interesting topic. I have heard lots of talk about having and being a mentor, but honestly I don't think I know anyone who has ever referred to another person as their mentor. Now I did once hear a woman refer to herself as a mentor to someone else, although, I'm not convinced that the other person viewed the relationship from the same perspective.
I think I have to say Yes and No to having a mentor. By definition I have been mentored by a number of godly women at different times and in different ways. I love to read and most of my mentors have been authors. I would say that Elisabeth Elliot was definitely my first mentor. God really used her to grow me for a couple of years. I have read almost all of her books and learned so much from her counsel. I also have a couple of friends that I will go to at times when I want counsel. These are the ones that I know will give me godly counsel and will be honest even if it is something I may not want to hear. But I don't think of them as my mentors but as my friends, and I know they view the relationship the same. We mentor each other as God has given each of us wisdom in different areas. I think this is the best kind of mentor, a godly friend.
Edie, I wrote something fairly similar to your post - the word mentor conjures up the wrong impression in my mind and would rather call such people friends.
Hi Edie,
I love coming and reading your insights and thoughts.
I had to look up what mentor meant tonight as well! I think a mentor has to be a "Godly friend," as well.
And there is nothing like having a circle of like-minded-faith- friends!
I am so happy to have had this question today, because I don't think I ever realized what these people mean to me.
Your BED JUMPER cracks me UP!I can't get that song out of my head now.. Theres one little monkey jumpin on the bed... " heehaoaoao
Very good words of wisdom and encouragement. I enjoyed your post and er, corrected my typo. How embarrassing! (Though I bet Jesus chuckled at my typo.)
