Choose Wisely

Last week the girls and I went to rent a movie, something I haven't done is about 15 years. When you don't expose yourself to tv and movies, it's amazing how much more aware you become of the sinful and evil nature of the shows that are being produced these days.

While I was paying for the movie and the girls were looking through the candy section, I noticed this candy on the counter, Twilight Sweethearts.

This movie is being depicted as a love story between a teenage girl and a vampire, and it has created an incredible love in this nation for all things vampire. Sadly, even Christians have fallen for this. A vampire is defined as a corpse, animated by an undeparted soul or demon, that periodically leaves the grave and sucks the blood of the living. In other words, this story is a "love story" between a teenage girl and a demon in a dead mans body.

Lets look at what some of these hearts say. Dazzle, Lamb, Live 4 Ever, Bite Me. The definition of Dazzle is to overpower or dim the vision of by intense light, to shine or reflect brilliantly, to excite admiration by brilliance. So when we look at the first three we might believe it is referring to Christ. Jesus and only Jesus is The Light and The Lamb that gives us Life 4 Ever. But one of the hearts says Bite Me, referring to a vampire (a demon in a dead persons body) sucking the life blood out of a human by biting them.

Any Israelite or any alien living among them who eats any blood—I will set my face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from his people. For the life of a creature is in the blood... Leviticus 17:10
According to this scripture, God sets His face against vampires. Vampires are about death, God is about Life. Satan is the great copier. He copies everything about God because he wants to be God. He is the great Liar and twists the truth to deceive God's people. Even the reference to the Forbidden Fruit on the box and in this picture clearly point to the first sin when Satan deceived Eve and convinced her to do what God had Forbidden.

If a person sins and does what is forbidden in any of the LORD's commands, even though he does not know it, he is guilty and will be held responsible. Leviticus 5:17

We are in the last days and we must be more vigilant than ever to teach our children to make wise choices that will lead them into Truth. We have to stop reasoning that because something is fun to us it is safe, and right in God's eyes. How can we teach our children to choose what is right even when it is hard, if we don't do that ourselves? In the words of Jim Elliot. "He is no fool who loses what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose."

I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. Matthew 10:16

It's so good to hear that this movie disturbs someone else besides me. I just can't understand the excitement over this movie. Like you said, it's a teenage girl and a dead guy possessed by a demon. Um, no thank you! Not in my house!
I'm glad you shed some light on it my friend.

I'm so thankful for you and your obedience to God's Word!

I am shocked in how many Christian go to movies that I KNOW Jesus wouldn't approve of. We say "Its just a movie." But I've seen in my own home how Satan works through TV, music, movies and books. I watched (with my approval) my son as he was drawn into to this world, because I believe just a little "look or listen " wouldn't hurt. Now, I'm praying for his life.

Yes, my son has made his own choices but I'm sad to say... I helped guide him.

Edie, sorry for the lengthy
comment. But this subject along with Santa, the Easter bunny and every thing else this world deceives us with is very close to my heart.

Love my friend.
Tammy

Thank you for the fix on my nav. bar :)

Edie, you said enough and you said it well because it's under the direction of the HOLY SPIRIT so all I say is a hearty, AMEN!!

Love you!

Amen and Amen!!! Just look at the boxes subtitle "Forbidden Fruits" (a direct relationship to taking the fruit in the garden), and surprise, surprise, the photo on the book shows them holding an apple...another reference to taking the "Forbidden fruit."

So sad! It's blatant and subtle at the same time!!! Just like the devil.

Thank you for posting this!

My heart has been breaking over the people that I know of here in my community that are Christians that are attending this movie, why? Because the enemy is crafty and because we aren't "armored up" to say NO and to stand FIRM, and to RESIST, and to go "polar opposite" of this movie. Thank you for an extremely well written post from your heart that is filled with truth. Thank YOU!

Lovingly,
Yolanda

These are strong and oh-so-important words for each of us. It is so easy to be desensetized by all that is out there, and to lower the bar just a little bit, which grows quickly into more than we wanted it to. Thanks for sharing!

Hi~ I'm here via Lisa Shaw - and AGREE wholeheartedly with what you had to say in this post. I'm so sad that so many girls and women have been blinded to the dangers of these books and movies and that vampires are being glorified and romanticized. Thanks for your honest words.

Edie,
I left a comment on Beth's blog telling her to ask you for a prayer button. Her daughter went on a mission trip and became very ill. She is now back in the states in ICU with Malaria. You can go to her page and read more about it. I know you will want to pray for her whether she decides to get you to make a prayer button or not.
Love and prayers, andrea

God bless you. Thanks for linking to my post Edie. I pray that the Lord will grant eyes to see the truth about the deception, darkness and death in our culture and the grace to repent and come out from it and be seperate!

I have not seen the candy, but how telling....and heartbreaking that there is very little fear of God in our culture. We forget that Hebrews says, "Judgement begins in the house of God" and "Our God is a consuming fire".

Our precious Lord, loving, kind, gracious, Majestic and Holy...HOLY HOLY HOLY! Halleluiah!

Edie........Amen sister!! The subtlety of the enemy is so prevalent in these last days.

I've been very saddened and shocked to learn of young Christian women bloggers who have been swept away with the "twilighlight" vampire seduction and justify it as just a fictional love story. I pray that the eyes of their understanding will be opened and they will no longer believe the lie and fall for it.

I realize that we are living in the last of days and will see more and more of these types of deceptions so we must stayed prayed up, close to Him, and be led of the Spirit of God into all truth!

Thanks for sharing and sounding the alarm!!

Sweet Blessings!
Jackie

Thanks, Edie. I don't go to the movies and I watch very little TV for the reasons you gave. My husband is very much against these types of things so I follow his guidelines as well as my own.

I need to talk with my daughter and make sure my grandchildren don't get caught up in this type of stuff. Sinful is what it is. We really have to be careful because I do believe we are living in the last days. I'm so glad to hear the others say the same thing.
May God bless you for alerting those who may not know about these things.
Blessings,
AliceE.

Thank God for guiding you in writing about a very important reminder regarding our spiritual walk. I am not into these movies or tv shows, too. We must be careful as the enemies can portray themselves as "angels of light"...They are not depicted as those ugly monsters or scary faces. Satan is the most beautiful angel. His deception is like that. It appears so harmless but what damage it does to someone's spirit! And relationship with God. Thank you for sharing this! God bless you sister and have a wonderful day!

Edie,
Please tell me I have not jeopardized my salvation by eating a box of candy, regardless of what was printed on it. Now I have to go see this movie so that I may discern for myself if it is the evil you all say it is. Oh tartar sauce.

Dear Edie,

I wish every young girl and boy could read your post. I did not raise my kids as christians. I pray each day for my husband, children and most of my family for God to interupt their lives wherever they are morning, noon and night. I pray they will come out of the dark and into the light of Jesus. Thanks for all your posts, I love reading them.

Much love,
Christina

I've read the books and don't really view them this way. I totally respect your opinion, however.

Thank you for writing this. I've seen so many of my friends buy into this Twilight series as just a form of entertainment and it saddens me. It is evil wrapped in a pretty package. Thank you for taking a stand and calling it what it is.

I really admire your willingness to "hit this head on"! I too am amazed at how many Christians think this is okay, when the premise for the whole thing seems so evil. It is certainly an example of how you can dress garbage up in rose petals, yet it still has the stench.

Oh my - you are so right we ARE living IN the LAST DAYS!! satan will stop at nothing to show his power. And to think so many people see nothing wrong with this movie or ones like it......

What are we allowing are children and grandchildren to participate in these days?

I hope we are ready to fight the battles that await us in THESE LAST DAYS! You just fought one of them!

Love you and so glad you like the goodies in the envelope!

Very good points. I have no desire to read these books or see the movie. My sis is and has and does...

You are so right on target Edie. I can't believe all the interest in this movie and other things like it. If you really want to see some thing scary, try watching a "Disney" movie. Walt is surly upset with what has happened here on earth.

I haven't been paying attention to this movie but I am going to. I know this genre is coming back in both movies and books - vampires, werewolves, etc. Some think it is ok - if it gets the kids to read that is good.

But what about the subject matter they are taking in? That is the scary part.

Vampires and werewolves are Hollywood's palatable and sanitized representation of the demonic, as you so ably discussed here.

It is incredible how sly the enemy can be - serving movies and candies that families are "enjoying" together - all under the threat of darkness entering their hearts.

I agree with Kelly's observation about the title of the candy, too - Forbidden Fruit. Could be a reference to the Garden of Eden or even to Prov. 9 where Woman Folly (the opposite of the godly Woman Wisdom) serves a meal of stolen water and forbidden pleasures - she leads her diners to an early grave.

Yolanda - grieving for those who enter is an appropriate response.

Great post.

Hi Edie,
Thank you so much for bringing to attention what the Word has to say about vampires and such. Our society has become very much wrapped up in such poison and I'm apalled at the number of Christians also who accept it all as harmless. Good post!
I also want to thank you for stopping by and offering to make a prayer button for my aunt. I would so appreciate one. Thank you.

Blessings,
Sandi

I too have been so amazed at how many Christians have seen this movie and talk so fondly of it. Glad to know I'm not alone in my shock. It's all over t.v. too. People seem to be so interested in the supernatural and death. So sad!

Wonderful thoughts! I'm glad to know that there are others out there standing up against things just like this. Too often the world gives us things that are supposedly innocent when it's more like a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Great post!

Prayers and blessings,
