Nativity Quiz Answers

Here are the answers to the Nativity Quiz. So how well did you do?

1. How many wise men were there?
c. The Bible does not say.
Although tradition suggests there were three wisemen, as in the carol "We Three Kings of Orient Are," the Bible actually does not give the number of Magi. (Go to Biblical account of the Magi in Matthew).

2. Did Joseph meet the wise men?
c. The Bible does not say.
Matthew writes that the magi found the Child with Mary, but makes no mention of Joseph. Matthew 2:9-11. Of course, as a good parent, we would probably expect Joseph to have been there.

3. What animal did Mary ride to Bethlehem?
d. The Bible does not say.
Although it would be a long walk for a pregnant woman from Nazareth to Bethlehem, the Bible does not mention what animal, if any, Mary rode. Luke 2:4-6

4. The Holy Family named the child "Jesus" because:
c. All of the above.
In Luke, the Angel Gabriel tells Mary to use the name "Jesus." Luke 1:30-31 . In Matthew, an angel tells Joseph to use the name. Matthew 1:20-21

5. What type of building was Jesus born in?
d. The Bible does not say.
Although Luke tells us that the baby was placed in a manger, there is no mention of where the manger was located. Luke 2:6-8

6. What animals were present at the Nativity?
e. The Bible does not say.
Despite the line in Away in a Manger that "the cattle were lowing, the poor baby wakes," there is no mention of which animals were present at the Nativity. Luke 2:6-8

7. Who besides the wise men saw the star?
c. The Bible does not say.
Check Matthew's account.

8. How did the star compare in brightness with the other stars?
d. The Bible does not say.
Check Matthew's account.

9. How soon after Joseph and Mary reached Bethlehem was Jesus born?
c. The Bible does not say.
Although every Sunday school Christmas pageant has Mary deliver a baby moments after Mary and Joseph are turned away from the inn, the Bible does not specify a time period. Check Luke's account.

Isn't that amazing?!? I got most of the answers right without checking the bible. I did miss what animals were present. I thought certainly it had mentioned some.

LOVED the quiz. Thanks for sharing it!

I think I got them all wrong. I guess I remembered the pictures from when I was a child. That's ok, I am still reading and learning. Great quiz.

I appreciated your comment on my Advent blog. Three is an excellent illustrative number (from an artist's perspective, an odd number is more interesting; not to mention the Trinity parallel). But, then again, so might 7--an oft-used Biblical number. 11 might seem a bit many.

Still have to come back to my earlier thought, though, that many of us are walking around with some knowledge that isn't Biblical. It's hard to get that out of your head, especially when songs and stories that you've heard all your life get it wrong, too.

I'm sure someone just said--"Gold, frankincense and myrrh"--must have been three of them! What's more important than the number? They had a very definite spot in God's plan for our Savior's safety. AMEN to that!

When I answered the ones with what I believed to be true today, I got 4 correct. When I answered them while thinking about when I was younger and what I was taught in school and Sunday school, I got 3.

Interesting.

I directed the children’s choir when our children were small. My son would NOT sing; he wouldn’t pretend or anything. One year he begged to be the little drummer boy. Now I KNEW there was no drummer boy in the Bible but I decided, “why not”. I figured if we had sheep and donkeys, why not a drummer boy! Though my pastor commented that it wasn’t Biblical, I laughed and told him it was creative interpretation. Today, my son plays the drums at church. I love it.

Hi Edie, I'm sorry I forgot to come back and check the answers. I've been wrapped up in the issues with the well and things at home.

Anyway, my guesses to the quiz were right as I had answered when you posted the quiz. But I think I can attribute that to some courses I completed some years back.

This was a fun quiz. I love reading, learning, testing, etc. It's always nice to keep ourselves in check, especially when understanding the Bible.

I'll check back tomorrow for new inspiration. You are a true blessing sweetie.
Love
Sharon

That was a great quiz and I was so surprised of the answers. I just went the norm of what I have been told and sung . That was very interesting.

You ask about traveling with the dogs. We have been fornuate finding pet friendly hotels all along the way. We have a lap top with a cell phone tower reception for high speed internet service so we can search as we approach the town we want to stay in. We always try to stop in a fairly large town for the ammenities they possess. Some will advertise pet friendly, but with a $50.00 per dog deposit or maybe less. We always try to find the ones that don't charge anything. That would be most Comfort Inns. They are very pet friendly and even give out a pet treat upon regestering at the front desk. The lap top has proved to be a great tool to have in use while traveling. we have checked rates, availablity, and of course road maps. We had no reservations anywhere when we started out on this trip. It has been fun, but I am dreading the drive home, we have to hurry home because my husband has to fly out to D.C. on Sunday evening when we get home in the middle of the night on Saturday. Poor guy. The military wears him out sometimes but we chose to add all these days in this trip so we can't complain.
Warmly,
Shanda

This is a coincidence I'm sure but at our Golden Couples dinner last night, the pastor had some of the same questions you have on a Quiz of the Nativity. I was amazed at how many I thought I knew but didn't really. Need to pay more attention to what the Bible actually says.

I'm doing a Christmas Blog. It won't be much but I just wanted to see what I could come up with. It should be ready to publish in a few days. Hope you'll come visit.
