I will give you treasures hidden in the darkness- secret riches, I will do this so you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, the one who calls you by name. Isaiah 45:3
This is a recent scripture that the girls and I memorized. It's funny that as I'm teaching them, I'm also having to memorize these scriptures with them. That is a good thing.
I have been wanting to focus on the closeness and intimacy that Jesus has with us. That He is real and that He knows them personally. That's why I chose this scripture. There's just something personal about being called by your name. Have you ever noticed that when you are talking with someone and they use your name in the course of the conversation it just makes you feel a little closer to them. It conveys the message that they really know you.
We focused on the fact that Jesus calls us by name, so for our project the girls decorated their initial to hang in their bedrooms. They really enjoyed this project and were delighted with the end result too. These actually turned out much nicer than in the pictures.
The Process
The girls painted wooden letters, then decoupaged torn scrapbook paper on them. I helped fold the edges over to give it a smooth finish.

Here's Word Girl with her "W". :)
She was actually happier than she appears in this picture.
Computer Girl posing with her letter "C". Does she look proud or what?
Of course Miss Personality wasn't satisfied with just one letter. She insisted on spelling out the whole name.
Hopefully, when they look at these hanging on their walls, they will remember the One who calls them by name.
A girl needs to be so lost in God, that the guy is going to have to seek HIM to find her!

Hi Sis,
They did a beautiful job in all of their projects, I love how you interact with your grandaughters, they will always have these precious memories and times to cherish when they think of you as grown women and have children of their own.

I love this thought about a girl needs to be soooo lost in God.....
Love the project...love the thought! And the more they embrace that thought, the more they will go about their living with that God-purpose in them, and not acting of themselves.
And as each one made one individually for her, so did He make each one individually--not to be the same!
oh, I think they turned out great!
I know I've said it before and I know I'll say it again, but they have SUCH a wonderful grandmother. What you do for and with them will last their lifetime.
I liked this scripture. It does make you feel good.
(left a comment on your last post too....running a little behind here....which is better than running a BIG behind!)
I remember the first time I heard the Lord say my name. I was in Walmart! (He knows the way I take: ) How precious to do this with the girls!!!! A harvest will be reaped from all you sow. You go girl!!!!! Love ya, B
My oldest never smiles either even when he is happy which is most of the time. I like hearing my name said too. I have started wearing a nametag down at the market and really nice people tend to call me by my name. That is just an observation that I made.
You're awesome! These are the luckiest girls in the world, right here.
I agree with you, Edie, calling one by name makes it personal. I just don't like the used car salesman, saying my name every two seconds as we discuss the Chevy Equinox that I want to buy next. He's only known me for two minutes and he's said my name 60 times.
Edie, this is a wonderful post- my favorite one today, in fact.
Thank you, Edie.

I have one of my grandsons here today! What a reminder of the way we need to teach our children [and grandchildren] as we walk along the way - as we sit - as we spend time with them. Teaching them Bible memory verses IS a great way to learn them yourself! God's Word is our instruction manual - and our tool for passing on to our kids and grandkids!
The letters are just beautiful! What a great job they did!

Those are simply breath-taking! I love when I hear my name and I was sharing the other day that I've always loved my name. Can't even imagine what it will be like to hear Jesus say my name when He and I are face to face.
Lovely!!!
Lovingly,
Yolanda
I totally agree with you about the intimacy of being called by our name.
Are you familiar with the song that begins, "He knows my name..." Love that one!!!
We are also memorizing some scripture together as a family. What a great thing to do!
I ADORE that project - the verse, the letter's for their names - knowing HE knows MY name (and yours!)
I want to do this with my nieces! How fun and they look beautiful!
I also get a kick out of the three different personalities showing... awesome. Totally awesome.
You are one amazing woman Edie... you are incredible. I so admire you and what you do to teach your grand-daughters of Jesus!
Edie,
I love it when people use my name. Makes me feel like I matter to them and that I am important to them.
Love the letters activity. I will have to locate some wood letters for my girls and have them do the same. Perhaps their favorite scripture can decorate the letters!
